Hempstead, NY - Northeastern lost its first game of the season Sunday, falling to George Mason 3-2 in double overtime at the Hofstra Pride Tournament. NU trailed twice in the match, but both times fought back to even the score before falling in OT. George Mason jumped ahead early, scoring its first goal 52 seconds after kick-off. Husky midfielder Anthanasios Kirkopoulos evened the game for the first time in the 26th minute, scoring on a shot from 12 yards out. The Patriots added a second goal in the 35th minute of play to take a 2-1 halftime lead. NU pulled even once again in the second half when forward Petter Starnas headed in a cross from defender Blair Carroll to force overtime. Both teams went scoreless in the first OT period, but GMU got got a break five minutes into the second OT when it was awarded a penalty kick. Patriot forward Charlie Snee converted on the kick, giving George Mason the 3-2 overtime victory. The Huskies outshot the Patriots 23-15, but were unable to net the game-winner. NU keeper Alan Lewis recorded a season-high seven saves in the match on a total of 15 GMU shots.
