The men’s soccer team was shutout 2-0 by former America East rival New Hampshire on Friday afternoon at Bremner Field. The Wildcats scored just 15 minutes into the contest and added another goal in the 89th minute to seal the victory. The Huskies dropped to 2-4-1 this season and have now been shutout in four of the last five games. UNH improved to 4-1-2 this season and 17-6-1 all-time against NU.

The Wildcats grabbed an early lead on Friday as Ross Fishbain passed the ball to Scott Rowling, who sent a shot from 10 yards out into the right corner of the net past NU freshman keeper Mahmoud Talaat. Talaat rebounded, making three saves in the half, but the Huskies were unable to record a shot on goal.

The second half began with a change in the Northeastern net. Redshirt freshman Joe Monthey, who transferred to Northeastern last spring from American University, replaced Talaat in goal. In net for the time this season, Monthey made one save during the second half, and the Huskies remained within striking distance. Freshmen Brendan Ennis and Lars Okland each managed a shot on goal in the half, but UNH keeper Brain Levey turned aside both bids.

As time winded down, the Wildcats got some insurance. Chris Banks’ shot from 15 yards out beat Monthey at 88:04, sealing the 2-0 victory for UNH. Geoff Sanford assisted on the goal.

New Hampshire outshot Northeastern 13-5 and 6-2 in shots on goal. Brian Levey made two stops for UNH in the win, while Talaat recorded three stops and Monthey made one save for NU.

The Wildcats also held a 5-3 advantage on corners.

Northeastern is back in action on Tuesday, Sept. 19, as the Huskies travel to Worcester, Mass. to face Holy Cross at 7 p.m. NU will begin conference play on Friday, Sept. 22 at George Mason.
