The men's soccer team lost for the fifth time in six games on Tuesday night as the Huskies were edged by Holy Cross, 3-2, at Linda Johnson Smith Stadium. The Huskies and Crusaders traded a pair of goals in the first half, but Holy Cross sophomore Felipe Castrillon broke the deadlock at 79:02 of the second frame with his fifth goal of the season. Holy Cross improves to 4-3-0 this season, while NU falls to 2-5-1 and 14-5-1 all-time against the Crusaders.

The Huskies would have been in good shape in the first half had they been able to stop the Crusaders' top scorer. Senior Josh Trott, who entered the game with a team-leading five goals, added his sixth just two minutes into the game on a breakaway. NU junior Greg Kilkenny, the Huskies' leading scorer in 2005, knotted the game at 1-1 on a direct kick outside the box at 13:27. It was his first goal of the season.

Holy Cross recaptured the lead before long, as Trott capitalized on a penalty kick and beat NU freshman keeper Joe Monthey at 26:30, recording his seventh score of the season and second of the contest. But again, Northeastern fought back, this time with sophomore Nicholas Patrikis answering. Freshman Matthew Laning sent a ball toward the net and Patrikis headed it in past goalkeeper Keith Bauer.

After outshooting Holy Cross 9-6 in the first half, the Huskies watched the Crusaders take control and 10-4 shot advantage in the second. Although Monthey made four saves for NU in the second frame, he was unable to stop Felipe Castrillon's breakaway shot at 79:02, and the Crusaders escaped with a 3-2 victory.

Keith Bauer made four saves, all in the first half, for Holy Cross. Joe Monthey, who started for the first time this season, stopped five shots for NU.

Northeastern finished the game with a 3-1 advantage on corners.

The Huskies will try once again to snap their winless streak as they begin conference play at George Mason on Friday, Sept. 22 at 7 p.m. The two teams played to a 0-0 tie last year at Parsons Field.
