Northeastern (6-4-6, 4-2-3 CAA) got a goal from freshman forward Mike
Kennedy with nine minutes to go in regulation to top Delaware (2-12-3,
1-7-1 CAA) 1-0 on a cold afternoon at Parsons Field on Wednesday.
Mike Kennedy received a pass from Nick Lueders in the box and fired a
shot that hit off the crossbar and went into the net. The goal was his
fifth of the season, which puts him in a tie with Lewis Ehrlich for the
team lead. Ehrlich missed his third straight game on Wednesday.
The Huskies now improve to 4-2-3 in conference play and improve their
chances at making the CAA playoffs. The Blue Hens fall to a 1-7-1
record in conference play with the loss. Northeastern also stays
undefeated at home with the win and now have a record of 5-0-2 at
Parsons Field.
Northeastern came out sluggish in the first half, but kept the ball on
Delaware's side of the field for a majority of the time. They had
several opportunities stalled due to seven offsides penalties against
the team in the first half. The Huskies outshot the Blue Hens 6-2 in
the half, but both teams only managed one shot on goal each.
The second half proved to be more entertaining as both teams' offenses
got going with 21 total shots. NU held the shot advantage in the game
19-10, while Scott Partridge made four saves on his way to his
CAA-leading seventh shutout of the season. Delaware goalie Conrad
Rusnak made three saves in the match.
Northeastern will honor its seniors Lewis Ehrlich and Jonathan Batista
for Senior Day during its last home game of the season on Saturday at 6
p.m. The Huskies will take on William & Mary as both teams fight
for rights to host a first-round CAA playoff game.
