The Huskies fell to the Fairfield Stags in double overtime Tuesday, 1-0, despite dominating the game for the first 90 minutes. It was the third straight game the Huskies have outshot their opponent in a loss.

Despite the outcome, the Huskies defense played a remarkable match. Fairfield entered halftime without a single shot on goal. In fact, they did not force goalkeeper Michael Gallagher to make a save until the 77th minute. This was largely due to impressive play from the three Huskies captains. Co-captains Matt Sanford and Lars Okland continued the dominant play they have showcased all season while co-captain Brendan Ennis saw his first action of the year following an injury and played well.

The first half saw Northeastern controlling play. The Huskies three shots on goal in the first frame were more than the Stags two total shots. Sophomore forward Mike Kennedy was impressive, darting around Fairfield defenders on his way to three shots. In spite of the Huskies efforts, they were unable to capitalize on opportunities and were held scoreless.

Although the Stags made more of a push in the second half, the game was still held even. Each team got off four shots in the frame. True chances didn't come for either team until overtime.

In the first overtime, the Huskies were held shotless. The Stags got off two shots, one on goal, as the momentum stayed even.

The second extra frame started with a Huskies firestorm. A minute and a half into the frame, Matt Laning laid a ball into a streaking Santiago Bedoya who tapped the ball just wide of the goal. One minute later, Josh Danesh saw an opportunity and ripped a ball off the crossbar keeping the game scoreless. With the momentum swinging Northeastern's way, Fairfield senior midfielder Christian Uy snatched a loose ball around midfield and drove to the corner. As he crossed the ball into the Huskies box it found the right foot of freshman forward Nuno Rodriguez, who turned and fired the game-winner past Gallagher.

"Yet another tough loss," said Huskies head coach Brian Ainscough. "We keep outshooting teams and outplaying teams but we can't find a way to get the ball in the net."

Northeastern enters CAA competition this Saturday, Sept. 26 as they travel to James Madison.

"We need to put a line under these games and just focus on conference play," said Ainscough.

The Huskies also struggled in non-conference play last season but got things together and made a run to the CAA championship game.

Saturday's match will begin at 7 p.m.
