Men's soccer fell to UNC Wilmington Saturday night, 3-2 despite goals
from freshmen Josh Danesh and Andre Ciliotta. Danesh's goal was his
first of his collegiate career while Ciliotta's was his second tally of
the season. The loss is the first for the Huskies in CAA competition,
dropping them to 2-1-0 in the conference.
In the first half, the Huskies wasted little time finding the net. It took just seven minutes for Andre Ciliotta to chip in the game's first goal unassisted from 20 yards out. It was Ciliotta's fifth point this season, tying him for first on the squad with Nick Lueders.
As strong defense highlighted the rest of the first half, Northeastern held its one goal lead into the intermission.
The now 6-2-2 Seahawks didn't take kindly to the Huskies lead and erased it early in the second. In the 57th minute the Seahawks' Sean Guderian slipped Tyler Wheaton a pass at the top of the box. Wheaton stepped and ripped one past goalkeeper Scott Partridge to even the game. One goal wouldn't suffice for Wheaton who gave UNCW the lead just two minutes later as he connected with the net once again from 22 yards out.
The Seahawks' offensive flurry wasn't over as they struck again in the 83rd minute. As Seph Babington touched a ball in to Etienne Boulanger, Boulanger one touched the games' third goal past Partridge.
Although Huskies' freshman Josh Danesh would score his first collegiate goal in the 83rd minute, it would not be enough as the game closed 3-2.
Goalkeeper Scott Partridge allowed his first goal in three games. He was coming off back to back shutouts against Georgia State and Hofstra.
The loss is the first of conference play for the Huskies. They will be tested again Wednesday as they host Towson at Parsons Field at 2 p.m.
