Huskies fall to William and Mary in double overtime

The Huskies fell to William and Mary on Saturday 2-1, and fell out of the lead in the CAA. The loss drops NU to 7-2 in the CAA while the Tribe improve to 7-2-1.
Despite the loss, the Huskies have clinched a spot in the CAA Championship that will take place in two weeks. George Mason's 2-1 loss to UNC Wilmington secured NU's bid. With two matches remaining, the Huskies stand in third place in the CAA, two points behind first-place UNC Wilmington.
The Tribe came out focused in the first half, putting three shots on net to Northeastern's one. Despite the attack, the Huskies defense held for 34 minutes until a failed pass back to goalkeeper Scott Partridge was converted into a goal by William and Mary's Andrew Hoxie.
It is just the third game in CAA competition in which Partridge did not earn a shutout.
The Huskies fired back in the second half just four minutes into the period. Sophomore Mike Kennedy touched a perfect through ball to freshman Don Anding who beat keeper Andrew McAdams one on one. Anding now leads the team with five goals on the season.
Defense took over for the rest of the second frame as each team was limited to just three shots. Time expired with the score even and the teams prepared for overtime.
In the extra period it was William and Mary who emerged dominant. The Tribe put four shots towards the Huskies net in the first extra frame while the Huskies managed just one. Despite their efforts no player netted the game winner and the teams entered the second extra frame. It was then that Caleb Thomas netted the game-winning header off of a Price Thomas corner kick in the 108th minute.
The loss snaps a five-game Huskies winning streak and drops them out of first place in the conference. In its next match, the team will battle James Madison University in Harrisonburg, Va. Monday at 2 p.m.
