Bobby Thompson joins the Northeastern coaching staff for the 2009 season. Most recently, Thompson spent two seasons coaching the boys varsity soccer team at Newton North in Newton, Mass.
Thompson joined the coaching ranks after a stellar playing career that began at Framingham High, where he was named Massachusetts Player of the Year and an NSCAA All-American. He then joined the Boston College Eagles, playing alongside Husky assistant coach Adam Pfeifer. Thompson helped lead Boston College to its most successful run in the history of the program. While at BC, his team qualified for the NCAA tournament three straight years, won a Big East regular-season title and two Big East Tournaments. Thompson was tournament MVP both times. Thompson's senior year, he was named All-Big East first team as the Eagles advanced to the Elite Eight. He had 14 goals and 20 assists in 72 games as a midfielder from 1999-2002 at BC.
After BC, Thompson played two seasons with the New England Revolution before moving on to coaching.
