Four Huskies earn CAA honors

The men's soccer team saw four of its players receive CAA honors this season. Mike Kennedy and Alexander Volk were named to the All-CAA third team while Lars Okland and Petur Vidarsson were named to the All-CAA first team, it was announced at the CAA awards banquet Thursday night on Thursday night. Kennedy was also named to the CAA All-Rookie team.

Kennedy earned All-Rookie and third team honors after scoring five goals and adding three assists for a total of 13 points. Kennedy scored his first collegiate goal in a 3-2 loss at Holy Cross on Sept. 13. He has scored three game-winners this season to lead the team. Before Northeastern, Kennedy played on the Lynnfield soccer team where he was named Div. 3 Player of the Year by the Boston Globe and set school records in career goals (76) and points (121).

Okland earned first-team honors for the second consecutive season. Okland has anchored a strong defense and also has played great at the midfield position for the Huskies this season. He scored the game-tying goal in a 2-2 tie at Georgia State. He has one goal and three assists for a total of five points this season. Before Northeastern, Okland captained for Norwegian Top Athletes for three years and led them to a championship in 2002.

Vidarsson earned first team honors for the first time in his collegiate career for his stellar play on defense this season. He scored his only goal of the season in a 2-1 double overtime loss to Old Dominion and has added one assist to give him three points on the season. Before Northeastern, Vidarsson played for the Hafnarfjordur club team and led the team to a national championship in 2007.

Volk earned third-team honors for the second consecutive season after scoring three goals and adding three assists for a total of nine points his season. Volk scored the game-winner in a 1-0 win at VCU to clinch a playoff berth for the Huskies on Nov. 6. Before Northeastern, Volk captained the Wirtschaftsgymnasium OG team and led them to German championships in 2000 and 2002.

The Huskies are 7-4-8, 5-2-4 CAA this season and will play UNC Wilmington in the CAA semifinals on Thursday, Nov. 14.
