Anders Hoeyem, a native of Oslo, Norway, has been elected to the Northeastern University Hall of Fame for excellence in the sport of soccer. Hoeyem, Class of 2003, will be inducted along with six others in formal cermonies at Lombardo’s Restaurant in Randolph, Mass., on April 18.

Before attending NU, Hoeyem played on a club team that had produced two other Northeastern stars. He was selected as the Player of the Year 12 out of 14 years and was the only player to score more than 100 goals in a season.

Hoeyem’s first season in 1998 was one of adjustment. Getting used to a new country, a new school, a new style of soccer and a soccer program that was going through a developmental stage, he scored two goals and had two assists for six points as Northeastern went 7-11 overall and 1-8 in America East.

In his sophomore season, Hoeyem scored seven goals and had 10 assists for 24 points. At that time, the 10 assists were the second-most ever for a Husky. The team finished at 11-6-2 overall and 5-2-2 in the league and qualified for the tournament for the first time in three years. Hoeyem was voted All-America East second team and, more importantly, Academic All-America second team and America East Scholar-Athlete of the Year.

In his junior season, he scored one goal and had 12 assists for 14 points. The 12 assists led the nation and was the first time an NU athlete led an NCAA statistical category in soccer. The team finished at 10-8 and 7-2 and qualified again for the America East playoffs. Hoeyem was voted first-team All-Conference and team MVP. He was also honored with a first-team Academic All-America selection.

In his senior season of 2001, Hoeyem scored two goals and had two assists for six points. The team enjoyed its third straight winning campaign at 13-8 overall, 7-4 in the league. The Huskies went to the playoffs, defeating BU 2-1, then bowing to Towson in the final 1-0.

He was again selected to the All-America East first team. He was also selected to the All-Tournament team and All-New England. He was named the America East Scholar Athlete of the Year and Academic All-America for the second time. In 2002, Hoeyem received the Gallagher Award as Northeastern’s Outstanding Male Scholar-Athlete.

He graduated as the Huskies’ third-highest goal scorer with 16 and ranked third in points with 65. His assist mark of 33 is still tops in the NU archives. As a Business Administration major, he graduated Summa Cum Laude with a 3.95 GPA.

Hoeyem is currently living in Oslo, where he works for Fondsfinans in equity and fixed income sales.

Joining Hoeyem in NU’s Hall of Fame Class of 2008 will be Vincent Barletta (rowing), Harry Mews (ice hockey), Roger Pierce (track & field), Nikiya Reid (women’s track & field), Brooke Whitney (women’s ice hockey) and Kelly Wilk (field hockey).

Tickets to the induction ceremony can be purchased by calling George Makris at (617) 373-4821.
