 Nate Hunter
Northeastern track & field athlete Nate Hunter (Gloucester, Mass.)
has been named the CAA Track & Field Athlete of the Year for his outstanding outdoor season, the conference office announced Tuesday.
Hunter earned All-America honors in the shot put during the outdoor season after finishing eighth at the NCAA Championship with a throw of 60'5.0. Previously at the CAA Championship, Hunter was named the meet's Most Outstanding Field Performer after winning conference titles in the shot put and discus for the third time. He smashed the CAA record in the shot put by nearly five feet with a throw of 60'10.5. Hunter is undefeated in the shot put and discus at the CAA Championship.
Hunter also holds the New England championship in the shot put after a career-long throw of 61'8.25. He finished second at the prestigious IC4A Championship with a throw of 61'1.5.
Hunter completed the 2008-09 season with 13 wins in the shot put.
During the indoor season, he won eight times, including the New England
and IC4A titles. He then placed seventh at the NCAA Championship with a
throw of 61'4.75 to become an All-American. He is only the fifth-ever
Husky to throw the shot put 60 feet indoors, a feat he accomplished
three times.
Hunter joined Carl Wallin (shot put, 1965) and Erik Nedeau (800 meter, 1992) as the only Northeastern men's track & field athletes to ever earn All-America honors both indoors and outdoors in the same event in the same calendar year. Boris Djerassi (1974, '75) and Vinny Tortorella (2003) both won All-America honors in both seasons, but in different events.
