Men's track & field releases 2009-10 schedule

The Northeastern men’s indoor and outdoor track & field team released its 2009-10 schedule on Thursday. Northeastern will be able to enjoy the comforts of home throughout the indoor season as eight of 10 meets take place in either Boston or Cambridge, Mass. The Dartmouth Relays will be held in nearby Hanover, N.H. while the NCAA Championship will be conducted in Fayetteville, Ark.

The squad ventures out to seven different states for the outdoor season, including two visits to North Carolina and trips to New Hampshire, Tennessee, Pennsylvania, Virginia, New Jersey and Oregon. Yet, for the remaining three competitions, the Huskies will play host at Solomon Track in Dedham, Mass.

The Huskies start off the indoor campaign at the Reggie Lewis Center in Boston at the Jay Carisella Track & Field Invitational on Sat., Dec. 5 and then cross into Cambridge for the Harvard Open on Dec. 12. Northeastern welcomes the new decade at the Dartmouth Relays on Fri., Jan 8 and then returns to Cambridge for the Harvard Invitational on Jan. 16. After a week off, NU revisits the Reggie Lewis Center to take part in the highly-touted Boston Indoor Games on Jan. 29. The Battle of Beantown pursues on Feb. 6 for the third and final competition at Harvard.

The Valentine Invitational on Feb. 12 in Boston instigates a three-meet stand in Beantown. Indoor championship season begins on Feb. 26 at the New England Championship and continues with the ECAC/IC4A Championship on March 6. The indoor season culminates on March 12 at the NCAA Championship hosted by the University of Arkansas.

The outdoor season begins in Wilmington, N.C. on March 12 when the Huskies participate in the Seahawk Invitational at CAA-member UNC Wilmington. Northeastern hosts its first outdoor meet of the year at Solomon Track on March 20 for the Husky Spring Open.

Following the home meet, NU will do battle at the Raleigh Relays on March 27 in Raleigh, N.C. The Wildcat Invitational is next on deck for Northeastern on April 3 with the Searays Invitational only six days later on April 9 in Knoxville, Tenn.

Solomon Track plays host to Northeastern’s second home competition of the year on April 17 before the Huskies travel to Philadelphia for the three-day track & field festival known as the Penn Relays from April 22-24.

Outdoor championship season unfolds in Fairfax, Va. on April 30 at the CAA Championship followed by the third and final showing of Solomon Track for the New England Championship on May 7. The ECAC/IC4A Outdoor Championship will be decided in Princeton, N.J. on May 14 while the NCAA Regionals on May 28 have yet to find a destination. The NCAA Outdoor Championship will be staged in Eugene, Oregon on June 9.

Northeastern looks to build off of last year’s impressive season that culminated with Nate Hunter’s garnering of All-America status in both indoor and outdoor in the shot put event.
