Huskies third after CAA Championship's first day

Senior Ed Reardon became the Huskies' first CAA champ of 2008, leading Northeastern University to a third-place showing in the first day of the Colonial Athletic Association Championship on Friday at Zable Stadium in Williamsburg, Va. Host William & Mary led with UNC Wilmington second.

Reardon took home the title in the discus with a throw of 149'6 and also placed second in the hammer with a throw of 162'2. Also in the throws, freshman Ian Anderson took fifth in the discus, senior Mark McBrine took seventh, freshman Alex Ianetta took eighth in the hammer and Dan Brooks and Ron Conway took fourth and sixth in the javelin, respectively.

Senior Dan Anderson had a solid performance, clearing 15'7 to place third in the pole vault. Freshman Pablo Rodriguez took seventh in the vault.

Two Huskies qualified for the finals with their performances in the hurdles preliminaries on Friday. Sophomore Jonathan Hall won his heat of the 400 hurdles in a career-best time of 53.14. Junior Cord Parks ran a time of 15.04 in the 110 hurdles to qualify for the finals. Both will run on the Huskies' relays on Saturday.

The meet resumes on Saturday beginning with the 110 hurdles in the men's decathlon at 9 a.m. on Saturday at William & Mary's Zable Stadium.
