Dion Gardner is in her ninth season on the Northeastern coaching staff and in her third as Associate Head Coach. She was inducted to the Northeastern Hall of Fame in 2006 for her exploits as an athlete and coaching contributions. Gardner assists in all aspects of the program and specializes in training the sprinters, hurdlers and jumpers.
Northeastern’s women’s athletes have combined for eight America East titles, seven New England titles and a CAA title in the long jump and triple jump under Gardner. The group includes NU record-holder and six-time New England triple jump champ, Theresa Williams. On the men’s side, Gardner has coached eight America East champs and four New England gold medalists. She has also played a large role in developing Northeastern’s dominant sprinting corps.
Gardner entered the coaching ranks after an outstanding collegiate career at Northeastern. As an athlete, Gardner led the outdoor track and field team to four straight America East Championships, while the indoor team won three of four titles while Gardner was competing. She won the long jump at the New England Indoor Championship four straight times, becoming one of the few athletes in history to accomplish the feat in a single event.
Gardner dominated the America East scene, as she won the long jump in seven of eight America East title meets. She also won three championships in the triple jump, two in the 100 outdoors, one in the 55 indoors and ran on Northeastern’s dominant relay teams. Gardner was named America East Performer of the Year twice.
She resides in Dorchester with her husband, Shaun Crichlow, and five-year-old daughter, Amani.
