Marion Mason is in his second year at Northeastern after helping guide the Huskies’ hurdlers to All-CAA honors last season. He previously coached at Liberty University, where he focused on the sprints, jumps, hurdles and multis. He coached multiple conference and IC4A and ECAC champs at Liberty.
Mason, a long time resident of Virginia, competed as an undergraduate at the University of Virginia and a graduate student at George Mason. While at the Virginia, Mason was an ACC finalist in the hurdles and long jump. He was ACC Athlete of the Week, earned All-East honors and also named to the ACC Academic Honor Roll. He still holds the indoor long jump record (24’7.25) at Virginia. Mason graduated from UVA in 2001 with a bachelor’s degree in Government and Foreign Affairs.
As a graduate student at George Mason University, Mason was a member of the 4x100 meter relay and competed in the sprints, hurdles and long jump. He graduated from George Mason in 2002 with a master’s in Public Administration and Non-Profit Management. As a post collegiate athlete, Mason competed in the Olympic Development Section of Penn Relays and in the Czech Republic.
In addition to coaching at Northeastern, Mason teaches in the African-American studies department. Mason and his wife Tamika have been married since 2004 and have one daughter, Mianna.
