2010-11 schedule
The Northeastern women’s hockey program released its 2010-11 schedule as announced by head coach
Dave Flint on Friday, July 23, including a 21-game Hockey East portion, 11 non-conference battles, two Beanpot Tournament contests and one exhibition game.
Last season, Northeastern finished with a 17-9-7 record, recording the most wins in a season since 2001-02 and notching a five-victory improvement from the previous year. The Huskies claimed fourth in Hockey East and remained a top-10 team for a significant part of the season. The Huskies also made history by participating in the first-ever outdoor women's college hockey game on Jan. 8 vs. New Hampshire at Fenway Park.
Northeastern will play 15 home games, 15 away games and four neutral contests. Along with the annual Beanpot Tournament on Feb. 8 and Feb. 15, the Huskies will venture to St. Cloud, Minn. for a pair against Wisconsin and St. Cloud State to start off 2011.
After his role with the U.S. National Team last year, Flint will lead the Huskies onto the ice for the first time since Matthews Arena turned 100 years old on April 16, 2010. Northeastern welcomes in McGill University (Montreal, Quebec) for an exhibition tilt on Sunday, Sept. 26 (2 p.m.).
Northeastern launches the regular season with a five-game road stint, starting up against third-year program Syracuse on Friday, Oct. 1 (7 p.m.). The Huskies stay within New York to combat Union for a 3 p.m. matinee on Saturday, Oct. 2. NU looks to avenge last year’s 1-0 loss at Quinnipiac on Saturday, Oct. 9 (3 p.m.) with a two-game affair at Robert Morris to close out the road trip on Saturday and Sunday, Oct. 16-17 (2 p.m./noon).
The Huskies settle into Matthews Arena on Friday, Oct. 22 (4 p.m.) with a bout against Princeton, initiating a five-game home stand. NU closes out the weekend against RPI on Sunday, Oct. 24 (1 p.m.). Hockey East action opens against Vermont on Friday and Saturday, Oct. 29-30 (5/3 p.m.). NU’s newest assistant coach and all-time leading point scorer,
Hilary Witt, welcomes in her old squad in Yale to close out the home stretch on Saturday, Nov. 6 (2 p.m.).
On Friday and Saturday, Nov. 12-13 (2/2 p.m.), the Huskies make the trek to Orono, Maine for a pair against the Black Bears before a home-and-home series with Providence sets up on Saturday and Sunday, Nov. 20-21 (2/2 p.m.). The first game of the series will be played at Schneider Arena in Providence.
Brown breaks up the conference slate on Sunday, Nov. 28 (2 p.m.) but the Huskies resume league action at New Hampshire on Wednesday, Dec. 1 (7 p.m.). On Saturday, Dec. 4 (2 p.m.), Boston College skates into Matthews Arena before NU crosses town for a showdown at Boston University on Tuesday, Dec. 7 (7 p.m.)
Northeastern rings in the New Year with a neutral fixture against Wisconsin, to be played in St. Cloud, Minn., on Saturday, Jan. 1 (12:07 p.m.). The following day, NU combats the host, St. Cloud State, on Sunday, Jan. 2 (3:07 p.m.) to complete the non-conference segment of the schedule.
The Huskies journey to Durham, N.H. for the second time on Sunday, Jan. 9 (2 p.m.) before returning to host Maine on Saturday, Jan. 15 (2 p.m.). On Sunday, Jan. 16 (2 p.m.), NU collides with Boston College. The following weekend, the Huskies entertain New Hampshire on Saturday, Jan. 22 (2 p.m.) to close out the regular-season series, but trek to Burlington, Vt. a couple days later for a Friday, Jan. 28 (7 p.m.) affair with Vermont. Upon conclusion of the one game at Gutterson Fieldhouse, Northeastern invades Chestnut Hill for a Sunday game against BC on Jan. 30 (2 p.m.).
The Providence contest on Saturday, Feb. 5 (2 p.m.) concludes the regular-season series with Connecticut making its first appearance on the schedule on Sunday, Feb. 6 (2 p.m.).
The 32nd annual Women’s Beanpot Tournament will commence on Tuesday, Feb. 8 against Harvard University (5/8 p.m.). The Huskies and Terriers continue their storied history against one another the same weekend on Friday and Saturday, Feb. 11-12 (7/2 p.m.) in regular-season fashion. Friday’s game will be at Matthews Arena while Saturday’s tilt will be held at Walter Brown Arena. The Beanpot championship and consolation contests will take place on Tuesday, Feb. 15 (5/8 p.m.).
This year's Beanpot Tournament will be hosted by Boston College.
Northeastern concludes its 2010-11 regular season with a home-and-home against Connecticut on Saturday and Sunday, Feb. 19-20 (4/1 p.m.) NU will host on Saturday and hit the road to close the season on Sunday.
