Northeastern swimming and diving head coach Roy Coates has named Jaclyn Dalessandro, Kathrine Fugge and Jennyfer Roberts team captains for the 2009-10 season. The Huskies lost six seniors from last year’s squad but with new leadership, the team will look toward a fourth consecutive winning season in 2009-10.

Fugge, a senior from Farmington, Conn. had an impressive, record breaking junior season for the Huskies in 2008-09. At the CAA Championship in February, Fugge broke a total of three Northeastern freestyle relay records as part of the sixth-place 200 team, the eighth-place 400 team, and the eighth-place 800 team. In an Oct. 17 meet against BC, she placed first in the 100-yard butterfly and fourth in the 200-yard freestyle. Fugge once again took first in the 100-yard butterfly at the Dec. 6 meet against Massachusetts. While racing with the 400 medley team on Jan. 24, she swam to her third first-place finish of the year against Vermont. At the final scoring meet before the CAA Championship, Fugge won the 200 freestyle and the 200 individual medley and came in second in the 100 freestyle against Dartmouth on Feb. 7. In addition to an impressive 2008-09 campaign, Fugge set three Husky records at the 2007-08 CAA Championship, beating previous times in the 200 individual medley and the 200 and 400 medley relays.

Dalessandro, a senior from Washington, Penn., becomes a captain after a strong 2008-09 season. She started the year well, placing seventh in the 100-yard breaststroke and fifth in the 200-yard breaststroke at a tri-meet against Maine and Central Connecticut on Oct. 25. At BU’s Terrier Invitational, Dalessandro once again took seventh in the 100-yard breaststroke and fifth in the 200-yard breastroke. Adding a relay success to her individual accolades, she was part of the fourth place 400 medley relay team at the Jan. 24 meet against Vermont. She also took fifth in the 100 breaststroke and sixth in the 200 breaststroke at that meet. Dalessandro also aided the Huskies’ eighth place run at the CAA Championship, finishing eighth in the 100 breaststroke and 16th in the 200.

Roberts, a diver from Waterboro, Maine, becomes the team’s only junior captain after a solid sophomore season. Roberts took fourth in the 1-meter dive and fifth in the 3-meter dive at the Oct. 25 tri-meet against Maine and Central Connecticut. In a Dec. 6 meet against Massachusetts, she took sixth in the 1-meter dive and sixth in the 3-meter dive.

The Huskies open the season with a Black vs. Red intrasquad meet on Oct. 3 at Barletta Natatorium. The first competitive meet will be a tri-meet against Maine and Central Connecticut, Oct. 17 at Barletta Natatorium.
