Northeastern defeats BU 154-145, UNH 175-124
The Huskies dominated the 50 freestyle event as sophomores Kathrine Fugge (24.67), Erica Smotrycz (24.75) and freshman Sarah Martin (24.92) took the first three places, respectively. Fugge also placed second in the 100 (53.10) and third in the 200 (1:55.62) freestyles, while Smotrycz came in third in the 100 freestyle (53.78). Smotrycz's time in the 100 was a personal record, beating her previous record of 54.12.
Senior co-captain Kara Lane won the 100 (57.68) and the 200 (2:04.99) butterfly events for the second meet in a row, while Elena Alvarez won the 100 (1:06.21) and placed second in the 200 (2:25.04) breaststroke events.
Sophomore Emily Sutliff placed second in both long distance freestyle events, clocking in at 5:11.85 in the 500 and 10:28.54 in the 1000.
Junior Alexandra Doty placed second in the 100 backstroke (59.55) and swam a leg on the second-place 200 medley relay team.
In the diving events, senior Brooks Wallace had a record-breaking day, as she placed second in the 3-meter (275.60) and third in the 1-meter (273.20), besting her previous records of 269.80 and 264.25, respectively.
The Huskies also finished second in the 200 freestyle relay, as the 'B' team earned a total time of 1:38.94.
The last time the Huskies had an unbeaten streak at this point in the season was in 2001-02 when they went undefeated and took the America East Championship.
The Huskies return to action Sat., Feb. 9 when they host Dartmouth at Barletta Natatorium at 12 p.m.
