Seniors Elena Alvarez and Alexandra Doty will serve as co-captains of the Northeastern University swimming & diving team for the 2008-09 season, head coach Roy Coates announced.

Alvarez swam the breaststroke and IM events all three of her seasons at Northeastern and is entering her fourth season. Alvarez currently holds school records in the 100 and 200 breaststroke events. She set her record of 1:04.08 in the 100 at the CAA Championship in 2007 and she set her record of 2:18.55 in the 200 in 2006 against Boston University. Alvarez was named All-CAA for three consecutive seasons and was named CAA Rookie of the Year in 2006. Alvarez hails from San Anselmo, Calif., and graduated from Sir Francis Drake High School, where she was an All-American in the breaststroke from 2003-05.

Doty is also entering her fourth season and will compete in the butterfly and backstroke events. In her previous three seasons at Northeastern, Doty was a member of winning 200 and 400 medley relay teams in addition to her individual events, including the record-setting relay teams at last season's CAA Championship. Doty is a native of Acton, Mass., and graduated from Phillips Academy Andover, where she was named All-American in the butterfly and was the New England champion in the 100 butterfly in 2003 and ‘05.

The Huskies look to repeat their perfect 2007-08 season and hopefully finish higher at the CAA Championship, where they placed fifth last season.
