Five members of the Northeastern University swimming & diving team received All-CAA accolades for their performances at the CAA Championship.
Senior Kara Lane (Kentwood, Mich. / East Kentwood) was honored for her performances in the 100 (55.72) and 200 (2:02.76) butterfly events. She finished third and second in the races, respectively.
Sophomore Kathrine Fugge (Farmington, Conn. / Miss Porter’s School) was honored for her performances in the 200 freestyle (2:04.56) and the 200 IM (2:04.56). Fugge set a new school record with her time in the IM and placed third in the freestyle.
In the 100 breaststroke, junior Elena Alvarez (San Anselmo, Calif. / Sir Francis Drake) was honored for her second-place finish and time of 1:04.40, while junior Heather Whiting (Steamboat Springs, Colo. / Steamboat Springs) was honored for her third-place finish and time of 1:05.10. Whiting’s time was a new personal best.
A relay team made up of Fugge, Whiting, Lane and junior Alexandra Doty (Acton, Mass. / Phillips Andover Academy) was honored for its performances in the 200 (1:44.52) and 400 (3:47.81) medley relays. The team’s times in both relays were new school records, beating the previous records set in the 2004 America East Championship.
The Huskies placed fifth at the championship, which was held in Fairfax, Va., from Feb. 27 to March 1.
