Nichols Coach of the Year; Huskies honored
Nov. 17, 2000

Northeastern volleyball coach Ken Nichols has been named America East Coach of the Year as he helped the Huskies overcome several injuries, claim the No. 3 seed in the America East Championship and led NU to a 19-15 overall record while going 12-4 in conference play.

In just his first season at the helm of the Huskies, Nichols earns his second straight Coach of the Year Award as last season he received the equal honor at the Big East's Providence. The only other Husky coach ever to be named Coach of the Year was Maria DiClemente in 1991.

Along with Nichols, sophomores Erin Spangler, Lindsay Wagner and junior Kristin Deatherage were named to the All-Conference Team for their great play on the season. Deatherage has now been All-Conference two straight seasons after winning the Rookie of the Year Award in 1998.

Senior Suzana Stojakovic received Honorable Mention honors and freshman Kristin Ursillo was one of six players to be named to the conference's first ever All-Rookie Team.

NU is still in the midst of its hunt for the America East Championship. The No. 3 seed Huskies take on No. 2 seed New Hampshire on Saturday in Hempstead, N.Y. in the semifinals of the 2000 America East Championship.
