Northeastern lost to Eastern Washington 3-2 in its season opener at the Michigan State Classic. The Huskies won the first game of the match 15-11, but lost game two 15-9 and game three 15-8. NU rallied for a 15-8 win in game four, but dropped the decisive fifth game 15-11. It was the NU debut of new head coach Ken Nichols. Lindsay Wagner had 19 kills and 13 digs in the match, while Kristin Deatherage added 12 kills and had 15 digs. NU set a new tournament record for service aces with 15 in the match. Erin Spangler and Kelly Cognac each had five aces.
