In the first match of a doubleheader against Big East opponents, Northeastern lost to Providence 3-1 at Cabot Gym. First-year NU head coach Ken Nichols was the Big East Coach of the Year last season at Providence. In his first matchup against his old team, Nichols' Huskies started by losing a tight 16-14 opening game. NU dropped game two 15-9, but rallied in game three for a 15-8 win by hitting .278. The Huskies managed to hit just .033 in game four, however, and lost 15-3. Suzana Stojakovic continued her impressive play with 10 digs, eight kills, eight blocks, 35 assists and a hitting percentage of .273. Kristin Deatherage also continued the play that has made her a perennial All-Conference selection, hitting .264 with a team-high 21 kills to go with 11 digs. NU remains banged up and is still without the services of injured veterans Carrie Powell and captain Adrianna DiGregorio.
