STORRS, CT - Behind the strong play of Gianina Pellegrini, Northeastern defeated the University of Connecticut volleyball team, 3-1, Friday night in the nerac.com UConn Invitational. Pellegrini had 16 kills and a blistering .469 hitting percentage. With the loss, UConn is now 8-3 this season while Northeastern improves to 9-5.
Northeastern claimed a tight first game, 30-27, as the Huskies of Northeastern out-hit the Huskies of Connecticut, .390 to .333. UConn rebounded in the second set, bombarding Northeastern with a .433 hitting percentage en route to a 30-15 victory. Northeastern responded to the UConn Husky challenge, though, claiming both the third and fourth games.
The nerac.com UConn Invitational continues Saturday when St. Peter’s faces Northeastern at noon. UConn will play Brown at 2 p.m.
