BOSTON, MA - The Northeastern University volleyball team defeated America East opponent Albany 3-1 on Wednesday night at Solomon Court.

The Huskies were led by Kristin Deatherage's 22 kills and Kristin Ursillo's 41 assists and 14 digs. Alissa Gibbs tallied 19 kills for the Great Danes, while Fallon Hearst had 15 kills and 14 digs.

In game number one, Albany came out of the blocks strong and was up on Northeastern 21-15. NU then rallied with a five-point run to make it a one-point contest at 21-20. Albany appeared to have the upper hand as they led 29-26, but NU was again battled back to even the match at 29-29.

The Huskies and Great Danes exchanged points to make the score 30-30 when sophomore setter Ursillo had a nifty attack on what appeared to be a set to give the lead for good at 31-30. The Huskies then scored the final point to end game one at 32-30. Deatherage had nine kills in game one alone, while Ursillo added 12 assists and seven digs for the Huskies.

The second game was once again a back and forth affair with neither team being able to grab a considerable advantage as the game was tied at 13-13. Deatherage then served up six straight points to give NU a 19-13 advantage and the Huskies never looked back. Northeastern took game two 30-19.

Albany jumped out to an early 19-4 lead on the Huskies in game three and never looked back. The Great Danes were led by Hearst's five kills in game three alone.

The fourth and final game of the match was tight in the early going as NU had a slim 7-6 lead. The Huskies opened it up to go on to a 30-20 win the decisive game.

Northeastern improves to 17-8 on the season and 7-1 in America East play, while Albany falls to 3-15 on the year and 0-8 in conference action.
