DURHAM, N.H. - Northeastern, the top team in America East, lost at New Hampshire 3-2 in a marathon match at Lundholm Gym.
In the deciding fifth game, the Wildcats ran off to an early 6-1 lead, only to see the Huskies recover to tie things up at nine all. An assisted block on the next play by junior Lauren Knight and sophomore Alyson Coler returned the momentum to UNH’s favor, however, and the 'Cats rolled to a 15-11 win in the game to take the match.
It was UNH's annual "Pack the Arena Day" and a season-high 1152 fans turned out to watch, giving UNH a strong home court advantage. Kristin Deatherage picked up a team-high 19 kills for Northeastern and Kelly Cognac had 18 digs. Coler led the way for the ‘Cats with 22 kills and nine digs.
UNH won the first two games, 30-24 and 30-23 as NU hit just .054 in game one and .098 in the second game. But, the Huskies surged back in the third and fourth game. NU started off the third game with a 9-3 rally and finished off the game, 30-15.
Again in the fourth game the Huskies came out firing, taking a 7-2 advantage earlyon. However, UNH would come back to tie it at nine apiece before eventually taking an 18-14 advantage of its own. The Huskies tied the game at 22-22 then went on a 7-4 run to get to game point, 29-26. NU had the 'Cats fight off two game points but they couldn’t fend off the third and the Huskies won the game 32-30.
