Northeastern ended the regular season at Maine with a 3-1 loss (30-27, 24-30, 30-27, 30-22). The host Black Bears won their fifth match in a row, improving to 16-11 on the year, 9-5 in America East Conference play. NU lost for the second straight time and finishes the regular season with an overall mark of 21-10, 11-3 in conference action. The Huskies, 3-2 losers at New Hampshire on Saturday, will have a rematch in the America East Championship semifinals against UNH at Towson next weekend. NU is the two seed, while the Wildcats are the third seed. Top seed Towson will face fourth seed Maine.
Black Bear seniors Leah Voss hammered out a match-high 20 kills to go along with 19 digs to lead Maine on Sunday. Sophomore setter Cheryl Elliott had a match-high 53 assists as the catalyst of the Maine offense. She also chipped in with six kills and three service aces.
Northeastern held a 14-7 block advantage over the Black Bears, but ran into a red-hot Maine team. The Huskies were led by Lindsay Wagner, who had team-highs of 14 kills and 13 digs. Kristin Deatherage added 10 kills and 10 digs, and setter Kristin Ursillo had a team-high 40 assists to go along with eight kills. Erin Spangler also reached double digits with 12 kills and had three solo blocks.
