| 2005 Schedule/Results Northeastern 3, William & Mary 1
The Northeastern volleyball team continued its hot streak with a key early-season conference victory over William & Mary Friday night, topping the Tribe 3-1 (36-34, 32-30, 27-30, 30-28) at Solomon Court. Whitney Turner led the way for the Huskies, putting up 25 kills in the match. NU evened its record at 6-6 (4-1 Colonial Athletic Association), while William & Mary fell to 7-7 (2-2 CAA). The first game of the match was one of the most exciting of the season, with the two teams fighting back-and-forth throughout. The Tribe took an early 13-5 lead, but NU chipped away, and finally erased the deficit with a 27-all tie. Northeastern took a 30-29 lead, but William & Mary got consecutive points to surge ahead 31-30. The Huskies got back-to-back points on a Lauren DeTurk kill and an ace by Brandie Genibrel, and the two teams exchanged points until a Turner kill and a Genibrel kill gave the home squad the 36-34 victory. Turner registered eight kills, Genibrel seven, in the frame. Game two was another hard-fought affair, with neither team able to mount any sort of a rally. William & Mary got the first momentum of the frame by jumping ahead 27-24 on a misplayed ball by NU’s Kira Batura. But the Huskies ran off three straight points, all on Tribe atttack errors, to knot the game at 27. NU found itself on the brink of losing game two at 29-27, when Larissa Adomat and Whitney Turner combined for four kills on the next five points, and Northeastern was able to register the 32-30 victory. The third game saw William & Mary jump out to a lead at 9-8 and never look back in a 30-27 triumph. It appeared as if the Tribe would cruise to the victory, leading 29-21, but the Huskies refused to quit, tallying six consecutive points, four on Turner kills, while facing game point. William & Mary was able to put the game away, though, on a kill by Megan Hector. Game four saw NU take its first lead at 15-14 and hold it to the end of the match, but not without a fight from the visitors. The Huskies built up six-point leads twice in the frame, only to see the Tribe hold strong. NU took a 28-23 lead on a Genibrel kill, but William & Mary trimmed the deficit to just one at 29-28, when Genibrel struck again, finishing off the game with her 19th kill of the evening. Adomat added 10 kills in the victory, as NU outhit the Tribe .171 to .149. Ivana Pavlisin registered 35 assists, Chelsea Carroll 25 for the Huskies. Kira Batura tallied a career-high 35 digs, while Genibrel added a career-high 27. Ashley Reeves notched seven blocks, DeTurk six in the victory. William & Mary was led by Megan Hector’s 21 kills, while Kate Woffindin and Caitlin Geraghty tallied 12 and 10, respectively. Kim Mount led the Tribe with 40 assists on the evening, as she came on for the injured Natalie King, who went down with a leg injury in the first game. Kathleen Hawley added 35 digs in a losing effort. NU is back in action on Sunday, when it plays host to Virginia Commonwealth for another CAA match. VCU (0-4 CAA) is still in search of its first conference victory this season after being swept by Hofstra Friday night. Game time is scheduled for 1 p.m. at Solomon Court. Volleyball Detailed Stats
