The Northeastern volleyball team played its final non-conference match of the regular season, and fell to Connecticut 3-0 (30-16, 30-18, 30-21) on Tuesday, Oct. 11 in Storrs, Conn. UConn moved its record for the season to 10-8, while NU is now 8-10 on the year. Northeastern is back in conference play this weekend on the road at George Mason and James Madison.
The Huskies were led by six kills apiece from Brandie Genibrel and Lauren DeTurk, and registered as many kills (24) as it did errors on the attack. Sophomore Kira Batura led NU with 17 digs, while Genibrel added 15 of her own. Ashley Reeves made four blocks for Northeastern, while Batura posted three aces.
UConn hit a strong .234 for the match, led by Megan Crawley’s 10 kills and eight by Sarah Singer and Heather Ashley. Jenny Neelands registered 39 assists to go along with 15 digs. Julie Pickard made 17 digs of her own while Brittany Stewart made 15. Crawley’s three blocks led Connecticut.
The Huskies get back in Colonial Athletic Association action Friday night, when they head to Fairfax, Va. for a 7 p.m. matchup with George Mason. On Saturday, NU visits Harrisonburg, Va. to face James Madison. The Huskies are 5-4 in CAA play.
