| 2005 Schedule/Results JMU 3, Northeastern 1
The Northeastern volleyball team hosted its first conference match as a member of the Colonial Athletic Association, but was unable to unseat James Madison, as the Dukes (5-1, 1-0 CAA) came away with a 3-1(30-21, 30-17, 29-31, 30-27) victory. The Huskies are now 1-5 on the season(0-1 CAA). The Dukes owned the first two games of the match, hitting a hefty .302. Allyson Halls had eight kills while Ashley Copenhaver provided five through the first two games of the match. In the third game, NU came back to life, and took a 12-9 lead early. The Dukes bounced back, though, running off nine of the next 11 points to take an 18-14 lead midway through the game. The Huskies then tallied three straight points to pull within one, but JMU again came back with five straight points to open a 21-18 lead. NU got back in control with Ashley Reeves at the serve, and held a late 27-26 lead. The two teams went back-and-forth to a tie at 29-all, when an Amanda Snead service error followed by a Dayna King service ace gave NU the 31-29 win. In game four, the teams went back and forth all the way to 23-all, but JMU nailed home four of the next five points to take a 28-24 lead. Northeastern was able to close the gap to 29-27, but an Ashley Reeves service error gave the Dukes the match. Four JMU service aces proved the difference in the game. The Huskies were once again without the services of freshman outside hitter Brianna Seitz and junior outside hitter Whitney Turner, both of whom were injured in the first weekend of the season. "We're trying not to get frustrated with the injuries and just be composed," head coach Ken Nichols said. "We just need to ride it out and our goal is to be in position at the end of the season to win matches and win a championship." Kira Batura led the Huskies with 12 kills in a losing effort, while Larissa Adomat chipped in 11 of her own. Junior transfer Chelsea Carroll led NU with 21 assists and Ivana Pavlisin added 16. Defensively, Northeastern was led by 12 digs apiece from Kira Batura and Brandie Genibrel. Adomat paced the Huskies with five blocks, one solo. Ashley Copenhaver led all players with 13 kills, while Allyson Halls scored 12 of her own. Copenhaver posted a .400 attack percentage, while Halls hit a whopping .421. Krysta Cannon tallied 44 assists on the match, while Jena Pierson registered 21 digs. Northeastern is back in action on Sunday, Sept. 11 when it will host another conference foe, George Mason. The Patriots are coming off a 3-0 defeat at the hands of Hofstra on Friday, and enter the match with a 1-5 record (0-1 CAA). Game time is scheduled for 2 p.m. at Solomon Court.
