Senior co-captain, Whitney Turner of the Northeastern University volleyball team put up a Husky season-high 21 kills with a .298 hitting percentage to lift NU to its first win of the 2006 season. After dropping the first game to Rhode Island, NU tallied more kills, assists and blocks than URI to run off three straight games and win the first match of the URI Invitational, 3-1.
The NU setting duo of freshman Jessica Tkachuk and senior Ivana Pavlisin combined for 46 assists helping to set up the Huskies’ best hitting performance of the year. Husky Hitters racked up 63 kills and a season-best .264 hitting percentage. Junior Kira Batura and senior co-captain Ashley Reeves tallied 12 kills each with Reeves doing so with a .545 hitting percentage. Reeves also continued to showcase her blocking ability adding two more solo blocks and four block assists bringing her season total to 18. On the season, Reeves leads NU with her .358 hitting percentage and her 39 kills are second most to Whitney Turner’s 41.
Rhody’s junior setter, Kaira Kachadurian, had a game-high 38 assists and sophomore Leslie Wiekamp added a game-high 28 digs for the rams.
The Huskies look to continue their winning play in Kingston, R.I. as they take on Akron on Fri., Sept. 1 at 4:30 p.m.
