| The Northeastern University volleyball team finished their 2006 season with a 3-0 loss to Delaware in the quarterfinals of the CAA Tournament on Friday night in Hempstead, N.Y. Playing in the last match of their careers, Husky captains Whitney Turner and Ashley Reeves both delivered stellar performances. Turner posted eight kills on .500 attacking while Reeves led NU with nine kills on a .412 hitting percentage. Senior Ivana Pavlisin led NU with 17 assists. The Huskies end 2006 with a 15-12 record as they finished fourth in the CAA regular season standings with a 12-6 conference mark.
Both of the Huskies’ setters played well as freshman Jessica Tkachuk added 11.assists to Pavlisin’s 17. Freshman libero Leah Neubeck posted a team-high 12 digs.
Three Delaware hitters put up double digit kill totals as Hen setter Megan Welch racked up a match-high 40 assists.
This was the third meeting between Delaware and Northeastern this season and the Hens swept the season series with three wins over NU.
After just missing out on the postseason in 2005 by a tiebreaker, NU’s appearance this year marks the first time the Huskies advanced to the CAA Tournament since joining the league in 2005. The Huskies' fourth place finish in the regular season standings is two places higher than in 2005.
In addition to their success as a team several individual performances highlighted the 2006 season. Junior Kira Batura was named to the All-CAA Second Team while becoming the all-time leader in digs at Northeastern. Captain Whitney Turner recorded her 1,000th career kill and senior Ivana Pavlisin notched her 1,400th assist.
Several Huskies were honored with CAA weekly awards this season. Batura was the Co-Player of the Week on Oct. 9. Tkachuk was Rookie of the Week on Nov. 6 and sophomore Brittany Eukovich was named Co-Player of the Week on Sept. 18.
