Northeastern lost 17-25, 20-25, 20-25 in its first match at the Paso Robles Marriott Invitational on Friday. The Huskies showed courage and no fear against No. 2 Nebraska, but it was not good enough as Northeastern fell to Nebraska in straight sets.
Northeastern was not intimated when they came out for the first set. The Huskies took an early lead and went back and forth with the Cornhuskers. Northeastern committed six serving errors allowing Nebraska to capitalize and sneak by the Huskies with a win.
The second set was even closer. Northeastern went toe for toe with Nebraska once again. The Huskies had nine attacks but had two more attack errors than Nebraska enabling the Cornhuskers to win another close set.
In the third set, the Cornhuskers broke away with a 6-0 run early in the set. Nebraska would have several runs ultimately putting the Huskies down by nine. Northeastern would not go without a fight as it fought back with a 5-0 run of its own. But it was not enough as Nebraska held on for the sweep.
Sophomore Britney Brown had five kills and a team high 11 assists. Junior libero Leah Neubeck had a match high 12 digs.
The Huskies step back on the court Friday night when they take on Tulane in their second match at the Paso Robles Marriott Invitational.
