Though a good start, the Huskies could not handle the attack of Syracuse and lost their fifth straight match at the Big Orange Tournament on Friday.
Northeastern started the first set off well accumulating a .344 hit percentage on 14 kills. The Huskies only allowed Syracuse to a .148 hit percentage. NU controlled the entire set leading by four early in the set. The Orange tried to rally back but the great serving by Jessica Tkachuk was too much as the Huskies went on to win the set on an 8-0 run.
The second set was not in favor of the Huskies. Northeastern had a hit percentage of only .029 committing eight errors while recording nine kills. NU never led in this set and allowed Syracuse to have a hit percentage of .281.
The Huskies started the third set with an early lead. The lead went as high as three before the Orange came fighting back. Syracuse scored seven straight points to take an 18-13 lead and they never looked back and won the set 25-19.
The fourth set was all Syracuse as the Huskies were unable to get anything going. NU did not lead once in the set. The Huskies committed 10 errors to Syracuse’s two. Northeastern could not get anything going posting a .089 hit percentage ultimately losing the fourth set and the match.
Northeastern will play Army on Saturday at 9:30 a.m. The Huskies hope to get back on the winning track after suffering their fifth straight defeat.
