The volleyball team was swept by Ohio in its final match at the Big Orange Tournament in Syracuse, N.Y. on Saturday. The Huskies suffered their seventh consecutive defeat. The team had a hit percentage of .124 on the match and committed 21 errors.
The first set was all Ohio. The Huskies, who never led in the set, only managed to tie the Bobcats twice. The last tie, tied the score at 6-6. Ohio went on a tear and scored six straight points to take a 12-6 lead. Northeastern was not able to battle back and the Bobcats cruised to a first set victory.
The Huskies bounced back in the second set. NU recorded a hit percentage of .212 with 13 kills. The two teams battled back and forth on the scoreboard. The score was tied 23-23 but Northeastern would commit two errors in a row that enabled Ohio to win the second set.
Ohio got out to an early lead in the third set. The Bobcats led by as many as three before the Huskies fought back to tie the set at 11 all. But that was as close as NU would come as Ohio rallied and went on to win the third set 25-18.
Captain Lauren DeTurk had a match-high 12 kills and six digs. Sophomore Caitlin Tittl recorded 10 kills with a hit percentage of .600. Junior Jessica Tkachuk had a team-high 19 assist.
The Huskies head to the court again Tuesday at Rhode Island at 7 p.m.
