Northeastern earned its third win of the season against Rhode Island Tuesday night in Kingston, R.I. The match entailed great competitions but the Huskies won in straight sets.
The first set saw more combined errors than kills. Northeastern had two attack errors and six serving errors but managed to get 10 total kills. Rhode Island had six attack errors and four serving errors while only posting six kills. Sophomore Caitlin Tittl started the set of right recording back-to-back kills. The Huskies took an early lead but the Rams came charging back with a 7-0 run. NU made a run of their own and tied up the set at 16 all. Costly errors by the Rams late in the set allowed Northeastern to sneak by with a win 26-24.
Northeastern started the second set the same way they ended the first. The Huskies once again took an early lead. Rhode Island came back to tie the set 8-8 but were unable to take the lead. NU had much control of the set as they only trailed one time throughout the entire set. Junior Jessica Tkachuk’s two kills, one block, and four assist lead to Huskies to victory in set number two.
The Huskies started the third set with a 4-0 run. That would not last as the Rams quickly rallied back and tied the set. NU and URI battled back and forth but Northeastern’s 17 kills and a .361 hit percentage was too much for the Rams and NU went on to win the set and the match in straight sets.
Lauren DeTurk had a match-high 13 kills. Jessica Tkachuk had an excellent performance posting six kills, a team-high 18 assist, seven digs, and a match-high three solo blocks.
The Huskies comes home to Solomon Court for the first time this season on Saturday Sept. 20 when they play two matches, the first against Boston College.
