| 2008 Schedule/Results Northeastern 3, Virginia Commonwealth 0
The return of sophomore Britney Brown boosted the Huskies past the Rams in straight sets (25-21, 25-18, 26-24) on Friday night in Richmond, Va. Northeastern now has an eight game winning streak. Brown had 18 assist, 10 kills, six digs, one block, and a hit percentage of .421. Captain Lauren DeTurk had another double-double with a match-high 12 kills and a match-high 15 digs. The Huskies held Virginia Commonwealth to a hit percentage of .097 in the first set, while NU hit .235 percent of its attacks. Northeastern jumped to a quick 2-0 start off of two Britney Brown kills. VCU came right back to go on a 3-0 run to take the lead. NU went on a 4-0 run lead by the serves of captain Lauren DeTurk, who accumulated a service ace during the run. The two teams would flip back and forth between points. The Rams tired to fight back, but the Huskies were too strong and went on to win the set 25-21. Northeastern kept the momentum going in the second set. The Huskies recorded 18 kills with a hit percentage of .361. NU once again scored first and got off to an early lead. But it did not last long as VCU came back to tie up the set. Midway thru the set, the Huskies went on a 6-1 run, giving them some breathing room. The Rams came plowing back cutting the lead down to five, but the run came late as NU was able to score twice and win set number two 25-18. The third set was a real nail-bitter. VCU started off the set with a 3-0 run. But the Huskies showed no fear. The Rams had a steady lead on the Huskies, but NU would stay in the set and slowly work its way up the scoreboard. Northeastern took a 15-13 lead midway thru the set following a 4-0 Husky run. The lead would not last long as VCU went on a run of its own and took a one-point lead on NU. The teams would go back and forth until the set was tied at 23 all. The Huskies forced an error on the Rams giving them set point. Following a VCU timeout, the Rams came out and quickly scored. But Brown and Jillian Robinson were not letting this one slip away and each scored the final to points of the set. The Huskies will travel to Williamsburg, Va. Saturday at 7 p.m. to battle for the number spot in the CAA against the Tribe of William & Mary.
