Northeastern swept William & Mary in convincing fashion Friday night at Solomon court to improve to 17-10, 11-2 CAA.
Sophomore Jillian Robinson had a strong game for the Huskies, leading the team with a .429 attack percentage. Briana Seitz was also effective offensively, posting a .375 percentage. Senior captain Lauren DeTurk had a match-high 10 kills and also added a team-high 15 digs, for a double-double.
In game 1, the Huskies outhit William & Mary .281 to .077. Briana Seitz led this strong defensive showing with six digs in the first game. The Huskies rode this sound defensive play to a 25-14 win in game one.
DeTurk made her presence felt in the second game, tallying four kills and seven digs to lead the Huskies. Northeastern stayed sharp defensively as well, holding the Tribe's star attacker Erin Skipper to a .000 hitting percentage. This defensive dominance allowed the Huskies to claim another lopsided win in game two by a score of 25-13.
Game three was much closer from start to finish, but the Huskies ultimately prevailed 25-22. Seitz and Sarah Stein both hit .500, and fueled the Huskies' offense. The defense was there again for Northeastern, as the Huskies were able to hold the tribe to a .087 team hitting percentage in the third frame.
With the win, Northeastern improves to 11-2 in the CAA and maintains its hold on first place. Second-place VCU earned a victory over Hofstra Friday night, keeping the Huskies' lead over them to one game. Northeastern will host VCU Sunday at 1 p.m. at Solomon Court, and can claim first place in the CAA and home-court advantage for the CAA tournament with a win.
