The Northeastern volleyball team fell to Connecticut 3-2 (11-25, 25-19, 14-25, 25-23, 11-15) in a tightly contested game on Wednesday night. Senior co-captain Jessica Tkachuk led the Huskies with a double-double, posting 11 kills and 16 assists. Nicole Bishop recorded 10 kills and added five blocks.
Connecticut jumped out to a 1-0 lead, winning the first set 25-11, never allowing Northeastern within more than five. In the second set, Northeastern would play Connecticut to a 12-12 deadlock before taking command of the set, winning 25-19 to knot the game at 1-1.
The Huskies would play Connecticut close in the start of the third set, before UConn would put the set away 25-14.
With the game on the line, Northeastern came out firing, with Tkachuk serving up three straight aces to take an early 9-4 lead. The Huskies would expand the lead to 18-11, but Connecticut would fight back to come within one before Northeastern put UConn away to tie the game once more at 2-2.
The two teams battled back-and-forth in the decisive set, playing to a 10-10 tie before Connecticut would outscore Northeastern 5-1 to win the game.
Jillian Robinson added eight kills and four blocks while Leah Neubeck tallied a game-high 24 digs as the Huskies fell to 4-5 on the season.
Northeastern returns to action Friday, September 18 against Central Connecticut State as part of the Dartmouth Invitational in Hanover, N.H.
