Caitlin Tittl's career-high 18 kills and 14 digs led a potent Northeastern attack that featured four players reaching double-digit kills past Central Connecticut State 3-1 (25-22, 22-25, 25-23, 25-19) in the opening game of the Dartmouth Invitational.
The first set was close, as the teams were tied 16 times. Tittl and Nicole Bishop would record four kills each to lead the Huskies to a 1-0 lead with a 25-22 win.
Central Connecticut would take an early 14-10 lead in the second set before head coach Ken Nichols called a timeout for the Huskies. Northeastern responded rallying to tie the set at 15 apiece. The two teams would trade points down to the wire before the Blue Devils would take the final two points to tie things at 1-1.
Northeastern and Central Connecticut would exchange points throughout the third set for the most tightly contested of the match. With the score tied at 23, Tittl would deliver two kills to give the Huskies a 2-1 advantage.
The Huskies would not be denied in the fourth set, jumping out to lead by as many as six, with co-captain Jessica Tkachuk posting four of her 12 kills in the set.
Tkachuk garnered another double-double adding 26 assists to her kills total. Bishop would continue her solid attacking play with 13 kills. Jillian Robinson also had 13 kills.
Leah Neubeck had a game-high 26 digs in a game where the Huskies tallied 81 digs as a team. Northeastern received a big contribution from Christine Kubik who posted a career-high of 18 digs.
The Huskies return to action Saturday at 11 a.m. when they take on Sacred Heart and Dartmouth in the second day of the Dartmouth Invitational.
