Caitlin Tittl posted a game-high 13 kills and 12 added digs while Jessica Tkachuk recorded her fourth triple-double of the season (11 kills, 20 assists, 10 digs) to lead Northeastern past Georgia State 3-1 (19-25, 25-23, 25-18, 25-18) on Friday. The Huskies improve to 8-7 overall and 1-1 in CAA play.
The Panthers would take the first set, jumping out to lead by as many as seven. The Huskies made a valiant effort to close the gap to one point, coming back from being down 12-5 to 19-18 before a Georgia State timeout. The Panthers however would come out of the break going on a 6-1 run to win the set 25-19.
The Huskies slowly built a lead in the second set taking an early 9-5 lead. Georgia State would use a timeout, but to no avail as the Huskies would make a seven point cushion, taking a 14-7 lead before another Panthers timeout. Georgia State rallied to lock the score at 23 each, but setting mishaps from the Panthers gave Northeastern a 25-23 win to knot the game at 1-1.
In the third set, again the Huskies built an early lead, going up 11-7. The two teams would exchange points to bring both to a 15-15 tie. Northeastern took the lead for good on a kill from Jillian Robinson, starting a 9-3 run capped off by a service ace from Britney Brown to win the set 25-18.
The fourth and final set saw the Huskies grab a 10-6 lead with three kills from Brown early. Northeastern expanded the gap to 14-9 but Georgia State would push to within one at 15-14 before coach Ken Nichols would use a timeout. Tittl would tally two straight kills and have a critical service ace to give the Huskies a 20-16 lead en route to a 25-18 win and match victory.
Brown added 12 kills and a game-high 23 assists. Allison Knoff recorded a career-high five kills and Leah Neubeck posted 17 digs.
The Huskies return to action Sunday, October 4 at UNC Wilmington at 1 p.m.
