Lindsay Kresch and Lauren Powell combined for 31 kills to lead William & Mary past Northeastern 3-0 in college volleyball on Friday night. The Tribe held Northeastern to just a .070 hitting percentage while hitting .239 as a team. Britney Brown led the Huskies with six kills, 13 assists and 10 digs. Northeastern falls to 11-10 on the season and 4-4 in CAA play.
William & Mary jumped out to a 15-9 lead early before the Huskies fought back on kills from Brown, Allison Knoff and Jillian Robinson closed the gap to two at 15-13. A Lauryn Ciszek kill cut the lead to one at 20-19 and a kill by Caitlin Tittl would give Northeastern a 21-20 lead. William & Mary would take a timeout with the score at 22-20, Northeastern. The Tribe responded after the break, rolling off four-straight points to take a 24-22 lead en route to a 25-23 set win.
Another quick start for William & Mary in the second set would bring the score to 10-3 Tribe. Northeastern fought to cut the margin to three at 13-10, but William & Mary continued to plug away and grabbed a 25-18 win and 2-0 match lead.
In the decisive set, William & Mary cruised to a 20-10 lead. The Huskies would not go lightly however, putting up a defensive stand thanks to critical blocks from Knoff, Robinson and Brown, which closed the gap to four points at 23-19, prompting William & Mary to take a timeout. The Tribe stopped the rally short out of the break, scoring the last two points to take the set 25-19 and the match sweep.
Jessica Tkachuk added six kills and 13 assists while Ciszek's five kills were a career-high. Leah Neubeck tallied 12 digs for Northeastern.
The Huskies return to action Saturday, October 24 at 7 p.m. as it wraps up its road trip taking on Virginia Commonwealth.
