Head coach Ken Nichols has announced that Resa Forsythe has joined the Huskies’ staff as an assistant coach. Forsythe comes to Northeastern after spending two highly successful seasons as assistant coach at the University of Alabama-Birmingham and an outstanding playing career at the University of Georgia. The Huskies finished the 2007 season at 11-3 in the CAA, 19-13 overall.

Batura recognized by NSCA
Senior Kira Batura was recognized as one of the 2008 All-American Strength and Conditioning Athletes of the Year by the National Strength and Conditioning Association. The program recognizes those athletes whose accomplishments reflect their dedication to strength and conditioning. Batura, who was captain of the Huskies, finished her NU career with 1,033 kills and was named to the All-CAA first team last season.
Nichols announces new recruit
Head coach Ken Nichols has announced that Stephanie Starnes (San Angelo, Texas/San Angelo Central High School) will join the Huskies next season as part of Nichols’ 2008 recruiting class. As a senior, Starnes was named first team All-State and to the All-Texas All-Star team in addition to earning a number of other awards. The Huskies finished 2007 in second place in the CAA with an 11-3 record, 19-13 overall.

Huskies ranked No. 10 in East Region by AVCA
The Huskies recently completed a very successful season, and as a result, are ranked No. 10 this week in the East Region of the American Volleyball Coaches Association poll. The poll includes teams from the Atlantic Coast, Big South, and Mid-Eastern Atlantic conferences, as well as the CAA. The Huskies finished the season with a 19-13 overall record, 11-3 in the CAA, and had several players honored by the conference after the season.

Huskies fall to Hofstra
The volleyball team fell to the Hofstra Pride 3-0 in the CAA Semifinals Saturday at Viera Court in Newark, Del. The Huskies finish the season 19-13(11-3 CAA) and in second place in the regular season. 2007 CAA Rookie of the Year Caitlin Tittl had six kills and first team All-CAA Kira Batura had seven digs in the loss. The third-seeded Pride face host Delaware tomorrow at 5 p.m.

Tittl named CAA Rookie of the Year
Senior Kira Batura, junior Lauren DeTurk, and freshman Caitlin Tittl of the volleyball team were honored by the CAA for their accomplishments on the court this season during the conference’s award’s banquet Thursday. Tittl was selected CAA Rookie of the Year, third team All-CAA and to the CAA All-Rookie team. Batura was named first team All-CAA, and Deturk was named second team All-CAA. As the No. 2 seed in the CAA Tournament, the Huskies will play either No. 3 Hofstra or No. 6 George Mason Saturday at 7:30 p.m.
