DeTurk named AVCA All-Region Honorable Mention

Northeastern senior Lauren DeTurk was named Honorable Mention All-East Region by the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) it was announced Wednesday. DeTurk is one of three CAA players to receive this honor, as Delaware’s Stephanie Barry was named first team and William & Mary’s Erin Skipper earned Honorable Mention accolades.
This season was like no other for DeTurk, as she led the Huskies to a 19-11 overall record and a 12-2 record in the CAA, earning Northeastern’s its first ever regular season title in the conference. The Yucaipa, Calif. native guided the Huskies to their first conference tournament final appearance since 2001 and the programs first CAA Finals since joining the conference in 2005.
The outside hitter completed the 2008 season on a strong note in the CAA finishing second in the conference in kills (364), second in points (3.94), third in service aces (32), and sixth in digs (345). DeTurk had a team-high 12 double-doubles during the season including a career-high 28 kill and 18 dig performance at the CAA Finals against Delaware.
The All-Region honor adds to DeTurk’s long list of awards in the 2008 season. Entering the year, she was named Preseason All-CAA ultimately leading to CAA Player of the Year honors. DeTurk was also named first-team All-CAA and was an All-Tournament selection for the CAA Tournament.
Since her arrival at NU, DeTurk has had an impeccable career. She has played 416 matches and 116 sets. Her 1,330 kills and 1,140 digs ranks third and ninth on the all-time career list. DeTurk became just the sixth player in program history to pass the 1,000 plateau in both kills and digs. Along with her awards in 2008, DeTurk has won several other honors including; All-CAA Rookie team (2005), second-team All-CAA (2007), and a two-time CAA Player of the Week.
With the selection, DeTurk is now eligible to advance for AVCA’s All-American teams.
