Boston, Mass.
Northeastern women's basketball head coach Daynia La-Force Mann has announced that acclaimed recruit Rachael Pecota of San Francisco will join the Huskies for the upcoming 2009-10 season.
Pecota is a 6'1 wing forward from The Urban School in San Francisco. She is the 25th-best wing in the nation's 2009 recruiting class, according to ESPN/Hoopgurlz.
"Rachael is a welcomed addition to an already talented and dedicated roster," La-Force Mann said. "Her ability to play multiple positions, as well as her ability to shoot the ball effortlessly, will aid us in our climb to the top of the league."
Pecota was a decorated athlete at The Urban School, where she co-captained her team as a junior and senior and was named the school's Female Athlete of the Year as a senior. She was a four-time All-Bay Counties League West selection and was the league's Player of the Year as a senior. She was a San Francisco Chronicle All-Metro honorable mention as a junior and senior and a San Francisco Examiner All-City second team pick as a junior.
Also during her senior season, Pecota was a McDonald's All-American nominee, a NorCalPreps.com All-Nor-Cal Division 5 and a CalHiSports.com All-State Division 5.
As a freshman, Pecota was the Central Coast Section Freshman of the Year and an All-State Freshman team selection by CalHiSports.com.
Pecota completes Northeastern's 2009-10 recruiting class, which will also include 5'10 guards Deanna Kerkhof (Wallaceburg, Ontario/Ursuline College Chatham) and Afreyea Tolbert (Rutherford, N.J./St. Mary's).
The Huskies, in La-Force Mann's third season, finished in sixth place in the CAA and advanced to the CAA Tournament quarterfinals for the second straight season. They will return 12 lettermen this upcoming season.
