Huskies add two staff members

The Northeastern women's basketball team has former Huskies standout
Jody Burrows '07 to the coaching staff. Rashard Thurston joins the team
as an administrative assistant. Head coach Daynia La-Force Mann made the
announcement Tuesday.
Burrows, a three-time captain for the Huskies returns to Huntington
Avenue as an assistant coach. She ranks fourth all-time in assists and
holds the single season assist record with 143, set during the 2005-06
season. Burrows was named to the America East All-Rookie team in
2003-04 and was nominated for the Dean Ehlers Leadership Award by the
CAA in 2006 and 2007. She also served on the Student-Athlete Academic
Committee and was named one of the top 100 Most Influential Seniors for
the Class of 2007.
"We are extremely fortunate to have Jody become a part of our coaching
staff." La-Force Mann said. "Her leadership and work ethic as a player
were the major reasons why I hired her to help continue to build a
successful program. The players have the utmost respect for her passion
and love for the game."
Burrows will assist with the development of Northeastern point guards
as well as recruiting, film exchange and game day operations.
Thurston will serve as the team's administrative assistant. A graduate
of Florida A&M, Thurston has served as an assistant coach in the
high school ranks in Florida. Thurston was an assistant at C. Leon King
High School in Tampa, Fla. while he was a student-teacher. He then
moved on to teach American History at Lakeland Senior High School,
where he also served as an assistant coach to the varsity boys'
basketball team.
Thurston also served as a member of the U.S. Army Reserves, working
with the 351st postal region as a power generation equipment repair
specialist from 1999-2005.
"As our administrative assistant Rashard will be in charge of game day
activities, post game activities, and practice activities."
La-Force Mann said. "He will get a good glimpse into the day-to-day
responsibilities of running a basketball program."
Thurston will also assist in film exchange and coordination for the Huskies.
Northeastern opens the 2009-10 season at the defending National Champion Connecticut on Nov. 14.
