Burrows returns to NU as assistant

Boston, Mass.
Jody Burrows, a 2007 graduate and three-time captain of the Northeastern’s women’s basketball program, has recently secured an assistant coaching position for the Huskies. She finished her career having the third highest assist total in program history and will look to lead the point guards to a higher finish this year in the CAA. She will also assist with recruiting, film exchange and game-day operations.
Northeastern women’s basketball finished the 2009 season with a 12-19 record (8-10 CAA). The Huskies start off the season against #1 ranked and defending undefeated champion, Connecticut.
“UConn will be a great first test,” Burrows said. “In order to get better you have to play the best. Our kids will take it as a challenge and we will approach it as a regular season opener.”
After graduating, Jody worked on NU’s campus while refining her game. Burrows want to keep the option open for future opportunities to play in Europe.
“I feel very blessed that (head coach) Daynia (La-Force Mann) has given me the opportunity to come back to Northeastern as an assistant coach.”
Although Burrows misses the competitive atmosphere of the games, coaching is the closest she can get to NCAA Basketball. La-Force Mann coached Burrows for her senior year and knew that she wanted to get back into coaching. La-Force Mann gave Burrows a call this off-season and it has been a perfect match ever since.
