1999-2000 Northeastern Results
Wisconsin 81, Northeastern 80 (2 OT)
The Huskies rallied from a 25-point deficit to force two overtimes, but eventually lost to Wisconsin 81-80 in the final game of the Rutgers Coca-Cola Classic. Lani Lawrence had just two points at the half, but led an NU surge after intermission with 25 of her career-high 27 points. Tesha Tinsley added 25 points, three coming on a three-pointer that banked in to give the Huskies a 59-56 edge with just 13 seconds to go in regulation. Wisconsin's Kyle Black answered with a banked-in three-pointer of her own with five seconds showing to force OT. In the first extra session, NU led 69-68 when Tinsley was fouled with 16 seconds left. She made one of two and then LaTonya Sims (22 points) tied the game with three seconds left on a leaning jumper. In the second OT, NU led 80-79 until Sims did it again, hitting a short jumper to give the Badgers an 81-80 lead with eight seconds to go. After a timeout, Tinsley raced the ball up the court and tried to dish it to Wanda Almengot, but the pass got knocked away and NU never got a shot off. It was an impressive comeback against the 25th-ranked Badgers. NU trailed 43-18 with 16:45 to go in regulation. Both Lawrence and Tinsley earned All-Tournament honors.
