Dartmouth 65, Northeastern 62
BOSTON, MA -- Dartmouth rallied from 14 points down in the second half and defeated Northeastern 65-62 in a women's basketball game at Cabot Gym on Wednesday.
The Big Green trailed the entire the second half until freshman Katharine Hanks made a layup off an assist from Stephanie Kinnear to give Dartmouth a 63-62 edge with just 28 seconds left. Genny Caruso then missed on the other end for the Huskies, and Dartmouth's Courtney Banghart grabbed the rebound and was fouled. She made a pair of free throws with 5.4 seconds left for a 65-62 lead. The Huskies then got the ball to point guard Tesha Tinsley, who raced down the court and pulled up for a three-pointer that came up short.
It was the fourth straight win for Dartmouth, which improved to 4-1. NU dropped its third straight and fell to 2-4. Banghart led the way for the Big Green with 19 points, while Hanks had 14. Liz Martin and Samantha Berdinka added 10 points apiece. Banghart also led the way on defense as well, recording seven steals. She now has 19 steals in her last three games.
Lani Lawrence had 13 points and a season-high 16 rebounds for the Huskies. Freshman Garrette Glinton also had 13 points and pulled eight boards. Tinsley finished with 12 points and five assists.
The teams swapped leads in the first half with the Huskies taking a 31-27 lead into intermission behind six points and 10 rebounds from Lawrence. NU started to take control early in the second half, using a 18-8 run to take a 49-35 edge with 10:14 to play. The Huskies maintained the 14-point bulge at 53-39 with 8:11 showing, before Dartmouth started its comeback. The Big Green outscored NU 24-9 over the next eight minutes.
