| 1999-2000 Schedule/Results Vermont 63, Northeastern 53 Karalyn Church scored 23 points and freshman Morgan Hall added a career-high 20 to lead Vermont to a 63-53 win over Northeastern in an America East women’s basketball game at Cabot Gym on Saturday. Vermont, winners over Boston University on Thursday, completed the Boston sweep and improved to 13-4 overall, 6-2 in America East play. The Catamounts took over sole possession of second place behind 6-1 Maine as NU fell to 5-3 in the conference, 10-8 overall. UVM led 34-31 at intermission and started the second half with an 11-2 run to stake a 45-33 edge with 16:04 to go. Church had five points in the surge. The Catamounts increased their advantage to 17, their largest of the afternoon, at 59-42 with 4:11 to go. The game’s final margin was the closest NU came the rest of the way. UVM did a nice job on NU’s top scorer Tesha Tinsley, who hit just four of 15 field goal attempts and finished with 12 points, six below her average. Tinsley burned UVM for 37 points in the Catamounts’ last trip to NU, a 72-59 loss last Feb. 21. No other Husky was in double figures on Saturday. The Huskies jumped out to a 9-0 lead in the first two minutes of play as sophomore center Lani Lawrence scored six points in the run. Lawrence went down with an ankle injury right after scoring her third basket with 18:12 to go in the first half and did not return to the game. With Lawrence out, Vermont slowly got back in the game, getting easy inside baskets from Church and short jumpers from Hall. With NU up 20-12, Hall scored six points in a 13-5 UVM run that tied the game at 25 with 3:45 to go. After the Huskies reclaimed the edge 31-27, the Catamounts scored the last seven points of the half, five from Hall, to take the lead for good and a 34-31 edge into intermission. Tinsley, who became NU’s all-time leading scorer on Thursday against Hartford, had four assists to set a new school record for career assists. She now has 418, breaking the mark of Desiree Clagon who had 417 from 1981-85. It was Vermont’s eighth win over NU in the teams’ last nine meetings. VISITORS: Vermont 13-4, 6-2
